Equipment

Throughout the race, you will face extreme weather conditions, with temperatures plunging as low as -44°C, fierce winds, and limited daylight hours. Proper preparation and equipment are crucial to navigate these conditions safely.

​The choice of equipment and clothing on the market can be a little confusing, but one factor prevails throughout - quality counts! That being said, there is little point turning up to the start of the race with a lot of expensive quality gear if you don’t know how and when to use it. Knowing your kit is every bit as important as your physical fitness for the event, so don’t skimp on this aspect of your preparations.

Clothing

As with all kit decisions this can be very much a personal choice. High-wicking layers are a must. Retaining sweat/moisture close to the body is a recipe for disaster as you will get cold very quickly - particularly when you stop.

Sleep System

A good quality sleeping bag is an absolute must. Your sleeping bag must be suitable for a minimum of -30c.

A thermal bed pad is also a must. Thermarest self inflating mats work well in the cold and can be packed small for space saving purposes.

Fat Bike

Your Fat Bike must have a minimum tyre width of 3.8" and be studded. You will also need to bring with you various items for bike maintenance along the course - our experts are available to help guide and advise you on all the necessities.

Nutrition

Fuelling yourself efficiently is key to making it across the finish line.

Competitors will be required to carry all their food for the day along with emergency supplies and have sufficient calories for each camp.
